WE’RE BACK! Phew! Grand Rapids Players returns for the 15th year to offer a COVID-safe summer theatre camp, featuring “Oliver, JR.” and “10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse”!
Travel back to 19th century England, where Oliver Twist and other orphan children live in the workhouse. He runs away and joins a group of street-urchin pickpockets led by the infamous Fagan. You’ll meet cast members from the 1989 GRPlayers’ Broadway production of “Oliver”. In the “Zombie Apocalypse” everyone will play a story character AND a zombie, designing your own costume with guest artist Ali Hansen.
You’ll go from script to stage in 40 hours! Everyone gets a significant role on stage with additional roles backstage. You’ll dabble in set construction, costume design, stage makeup, and learn stage directions, character development, plus stage presence, and have a whole lot of fun building confidence, cooperating and make friends. If your only interest is working behind-the-scenes, we have those options too!
Classes are scheduled Monday through Friday with a short intermission during 4th of July holiday. Three public performances, live and on the main stage of the Reif Performing Arts Center, July 9 and 10 will conclude the camp.
